Memory of the Day

Previous | Next | Recent Memories

There are so many wonderful memories that happen each and every day with a child. You think you'll remember them all but as time goes by some of the memories, no matter how wonderful they are start to fade. That's why I love looking back and reading some of my journal posts such as "I Love" or "First Words."

I decided to start writing down at least one memory of the day. I encourage you to do the same. Write in a daily planner, on a calendar, in your diary, in a notebook, write it on facebook, twitter, or your medium of choice. It doesn't matter where, just write it somewhere. Please check back to see the daily updates. I also plan to post the memory of the day through facebook (facebook.com/MOMMBY.com) and twitter (twitter.com/MOMMBY_com). Please refer to "Join MOMMBY" and the "Facebook & Twitter" page for more information.

Finished Rappelling Washington Monument - November 15, 2011
Daddy finished doing the temporary repairs for the Washington Monument today. It was quite an experience with him rappelling such an iconic structure. The repairs this week were not publicized like the team's initial rappel which probably was a good thing for the team. They were able to finish their task. We're happy everyone was able to complete the job safely. I will NEVER look at the Washington Monument the same way again. Every time we see the Washington Monument on the news, our 3 year old son reminds us that Daddy was blown by the wind when he was climbing the Monument. Please refer to the "Washington Monument" article for more information.

Rappelling Washington Monument - November 10, 2011
Daddy was scheduled to rappel the Washington Monument today. The weather did not cooperate so the team will probably not be able to rappel until next week. Please refer to the "Washington Monument" article for more information.

Halloween Celebration - October 28, 2011
It is going to be busy with all of the Halloween festivities. I'm not sure what to expect. We are going to a Halloween party, have a Halloween parade, a Halloween preschool party, and then trick or treating. My 3 year old is Captain Hook, my 1 year old is Tinker Bell, I'm Wendy, and my husband is Peter Pan. I originally thought my 3 year old would want to be Peter Pan but he chose to be the pirate. He enjoys playing Captain Hook, the "bad guy." I just hope we don't have any injuries with the other little kids because he's a little too excited swinging his sword and hook hand around. We've already had a discussion about the sword. I hope to report that my Pirate behaves at the Halloween events.

On the other hand, my pirate also has a big imagination and has not appreciated all of the Halloween store decorations. He does not like the skeletons or large moving spiders he's seen the past month. When we walk in the neighborhood, he says I don't like those "spooky" houses. I'm not even sure where he learned the word spooky. We are organizing a group trick or treat outing which I think will help. I hope there aren't too many houses playing "scary" music or we may have a short trick or treat outing. I'm also interested to see how into the candy my 3 year old is...he's had very little candy thus far but he does know what it is. The other day he got a KitKat which he's never had and wanted to eat it before his dinner and I was making him wait and he said, "it is just so yummy!" I also hope the weather cooperates for us and all of the excited kids.

Boy Versus Girl - October 20, 2011
Yesterday, firefighters visited my 3 year old son's preschool. On the way home I asked him so what do you do if there is a fire? He responded, "put on my hat, my jacket, my boots, my face mask, get my hose, get on the fire truck...." he described exactly what a firefighter does. He took on the role of the firefighter. When talking with a mom today, she mentioned her daughter didn't say much about the firefighter visit. She also asked her daughter well what do you do if there is a fire, she responded, "Stop, drop, and roll." I love the different perspective from a 3 year old boy and a 3 year old girl from the same exact presentation.

1st Birthday Blow Out Candles - October 11, 2011
During my daughter's birthday party the weekend before her birthday I realized I forgot to show her how to blow out her candles. For her brother's 1st birthday, we had practiced blowing out candles for a week. So on her actual birthday, we showed her how to blow out her candles. Here is a video...she was a pretty quick learner.

1st Birthday & Building the Deck - October 9, 2011
We will always remember our daughter's first birthday especially since Daddy was still building the deck 1 minute before the party started. Daddy and his team of helpers kept building the deck while the rest of us celebrated...they were determined to finish. Fortunately, it only took them 30 minutes into the party to put the last railing up and we all were able to enjoy the deck for the rest of the party. Our baby girl enjoyed some of the mac' n cheese and fruit and had fun smiling at all of her guests. She tried a lick of the icing on her cupcake but that was about all of the cake she wanted. Her brother wouldn't even taste the cake when he turned one and now being three he couldn't wait for us to sing to eat his cupcake. It was a wonderful birthday celebration! I'm a little sad it's already been a year...time goes way too fast, but I feel very fortunate to have had the past year with my baby girl.
