Monthly Pictures
Why?
A friend gave me a frame to capture a picture each month of the baby's first year. I'm so glad I received this present as it is amazing to look at the monthly changes. If you want, you can even buy stickers to put on your baby's onesie indicating the age of your baby. Check out, pickysticky for more information.
I think capturing monthly pictures the first year is truly amazing as you watch your precious baby turn into a beautiful little boy.
I enjoyed taking the monthly pictures so much the first year, that I decided to continue taking them into the second year. I'm not sure how long I'll continue taking the pictures but I hope for many years to come.
I continued taking the photos into my son's third year...

How?
As you can see above, I like to keep consistent backgrounds each month. I started out taking the pictures by draping a towel in my son's baby swing and then once he was sitting up (around 4 months) I draped the towel over our comfort chair. I always dressed my son in a white shirt, the first year I used the underwear shirts (which you can find in all sizes) and then by the second year I used a white button-down shirt.
My friend took monthly pictures and she preferred to take the monthly picture in an outfit that symbolized the month. I also enjoy doing this, please refer to the article on "Holiday Pictures". Or maybe you just want to take a "normal" action picture once a month. I don't think it matters how you do it just that you capture the baby's first year. My one friend is really ambitious and she takes a picture every day! Now that is dedication.

Never Too Late
If you're reading this and your baby is almost a year and you didn't take the monthly pictures remember that a memory is a memory whether you capture it in a photo or not. I still think it is never too late to start something but also remember there are going to be a million things you could have done (I was disappointed I didn't have a professional newborn portrait) but ultimately the most important thing is being with your baby and so focus on the wonderful things you do with your baby not the way you capture those memories.
