In case you don't want to keep reading, please refer to the template I created to help keep track of food items so when you go shopping you can do it with ease.

Be Organized?
It is always good to be organized when you're shopping and once you have a little one helping with the grocery trip the faster you can get in and out the better. Before I had my son and before we really cooked at home (I'm embarrassed to say we probably ate out five days a week) I would go grocery shopping without a list, just wander down the aisles picking up things I thought we needed. Needless to say, I probably bought unnecessary items and we later unfortunately probably wasted some of those items.
Once I had my son and dramatically improved our diets by cooking almost every meal made with organic ingredients I realized I needed to be much more organized when it came to grocery shopping.
Please refer below for a few pointers to organize your grocery shopping:
- Keep a list on the refrigerator.
- Add an item to the list when it is getting low or you run out.
- Plan ahead. Think of a few meal ideas for the following week, and make sure you have the necessary ingredients.
- Organize items by store location. I use the following template which I print and hang on the refrigerator so I can easily write down food items in the proper category and I don't need to re-organize my list prior to shopping.
- Try to limit what you buy not on the list. My mom won't buy anything that isn't on her list. I do buy some impulse buys but I try to keep them to a minimal.

Keep Your Little One Content
- Wear your baby. When my son was little, he loved to be carried in his BabyBjorn for the grocery shopping, at first carried toward me and then once he was facing out he enjoyed looking at the scenery. Later, I even used the Ergobaby carrier to carry him on a side hold when he was around 14 months.
- Take some snacks. Yes, it sounds funny to take snacks to the grocery store but my toddler doesn't quite understand why he can't eat the banana before we are done shopping. I do admit if I don't have snacks I do open some of the pre-packaged items like string cheese and let him eat some while we are shopping.
- Let them help. When they are little, it is fun to explain what you are buying, such as some red apples. And then as they get older they can help hold some of the products. My son loves to help swipe my credit card when it is time to check out.
