About MOMMBY

MOMMBY.com is about:

About You
If you are a parent, aunt, uncle, grandparent, caregiver or answer yes, to any of these questions then MOMMBY.com is for you.

  1. Are you a new parent overwhelmed with the task of being a mom or dad?
  2. Do you have endless questions about taking care of your new bundle of joy?
  3. Are you overcome with how much you love your baby?
  4. Do you worry about whether you are doing the right thing for your kids?
  5. Do you want to know what products other parents recommend?
  6. Do you wonder how you ever are going to accomplish everything you need to in one day?
  7. Do you want to connect with other parents?

Well, then you came to the right place, I had and have all of those questions. Whether you are a full time parent at home, work outside the home, work part-time from home or outside the home, I think as parents we are constantly striving to do the best thing for our family.

MOMMBY
The name of this web site did not take a lot of thought; it just popped in my head one day.  I was so excited when I finally did some searches on MOMMBY and it didn’t have a trademark associated and the domain had not already been claimed.  It couldn’t have been more perfect:

MOMMY + BABY = MOMMBY

Also, when I angled the B for the logo, it looked like a heart (one of my favorite symbols, my engagement ring diamond is a heart.)  I think it is appropriate to have the “B” for Baby symbolize a heart since a baby will always have your heart forever.  Erik thinks it looks like a silhouette of a pregnant woman.

Change the World. One Mom at a Time. One Child at a Time. One Hug at a Time.

Big or little questions
About your big or little one
Written with love

MOMMBY.com is about helping make your job as a parent easier. It is about presenting different options for you and helping you remember there never is a one size fits all answer when it comes to parenting. It is about trusting your intuition. It is about knowing parenting is exhausting yet amazing, rewarding, and indescribable. It is about love.

Even though I knew in my heart that I had to start this website, I still debated whether I really should do it…afraid that no one would be interested in reading what I had to write. Then on my initially normal, weekly shopping trip to Babies R Us on May 6, 2009, I found out that I definitely needed to develop this website.

A woman was smiling and talking to my son and we started talking.  She commented on how her son was almost 7 months old but didn’t nearly have as much hair as my son.  I explained that my son also use to not have that much hair that it just recently started coming in.  Which is very true, refer to his monthly pictures.  I then also mentioned how his teeth came in late, at 10 ½ months.  She was thankful for that information as well since she was starting to worry that she didn’t see any buds of teeth in her son and her friend’s baby has several teeth at this age.

Then she mentioned how her son was on an eating strike and I talked about how we had similar issues.  We discussed how it was a struggle for me to get 25 ounces of formula in my son and she was saying the same thing, I could tell she was upset when she described that yesterday her son only ate 17 ounces.  I totally understood as I had those same concerns as I wrote about in the “How Much Should Baby Drink?”.  She also talked about how she can’t get her baby to eat baby food and I told her about the tv trick.  I left hoping that that trick works for her; but I also left thinking I wish I had a business card to give her and I wish I had taken her email address or something because I thought of more and more things I wanted to tell her to try to help, like trying to feed her son a bottle after he falls asleep. I finally realized that I definitely need to write about things I’ve learned in hopes I may help someone else along the way.  And on May 6, 2009, MOMMBY.com was born.

As I continue to write information for this website, I know more in my heart each and every day this is what I’m suppose to be doing right now.  Something from within is driving me to keep writing and coming up with ideas to help me and other families not only enjoy parenting but also make the “hardest job on earth” (as quoted by Oprah Winfrey) just a little easier.

Learn from Others
Once I had my baby, I soon discovered there was a tremendous amount that I would need to learn to take care of my son.  I learned by observing my baby, reading books, doing research on the internet, and listening to other moms and dads. I preferred learning from "real" moms and dads rather than simply reading something from someone that didn't have first hand experience.

As my friends and my husband’s colleagues starting having children of their own, people started asking me for advice (FAQ's). I soon realized that I enjoyed sharing information about things I’d discovered while caring for my baby and MOMMBY.com was born. No matter how much research I do, I always remind myself that if I give my baby love and security and follow my mommy instinct I think I’ll be on the right track.

Organized Information
I wanted to create a better organized baby informational site. I found some really great sources of information as indicated in my resources section, but I wasn’t able to find a baby website that provided me with answers to all of my questions in an organized manner. Some websites actually had so much information that I didn't know where to start.

I also wanted to present different options and not just state breastfeeding is the only way you should feed your baby as formula feeding may be best for your family. A lot of the other baby sites tend to provide the “politically correct” answer to common questions, but I hope to present several different sides and opinions to all topics discussed.  In addition, some professionals may give impractical advice where you wonder if they have kids and if they do, did they actually try their own advice or did they just read it from a textbook? Although I do try to be non biased, that is not always possible and you may not always agree with my “opinion” on all subjects and only you know what is best for your family.

I love trying to improve or make a process more effective and efficient. Thus, I decided why not apply that to personal life? In my previous work experiences I would go into the process and think how can I improve this? So that is how I approached my full time job being a Mommy…everyday I would think, how can I improve this, how can I make this easier for me and other parents out there?
