Comfort Chair
Comfort Chair
You can’t have a proper discussion about breastfeeding/ bottle feeding a baby or helping the baby sleep without discussing the chair you sit in! This can be one of the more expensive purchases but if you can afford it or are trying to determine what items you should splurge on this would be one I would definitely say splurge if you can.
This article discusses the following topics:
Rocker versus Glider
We preferred the gliders versus the rocking chairs. Really, you have to sit in each type to find out what you like best. I was very happy with the chair we bought which was a Dutailier.

Cushion Chair Versus Wood
You then need to decide if you want one of the big cushion chairs or the smaller wood types with or without additional cushions. I wanted to get a smaller chair that I could possibly use in another room once my baby got older. I figured I could always recover the upholstery and put it in a sitting room or guest room. We bought the white wood chair with sage green cushions which looked really nice in my baby’s room.
We did also buy a black leather glider for our basement as we only had a couch in the basement and we initially thought we would be rocking our baby in the basement since that is our main hangout. Although, we rarely, if ever rocked our baby in the basement since we always went to his bedroom to feed him or to comfort him. We preferred to go to his room to establish a routine for breastfeeding or bottle feeding and to teach him to sleep in his room. I still love the leather glider chair (it makes a great laundry holder) but we don’t really use it as much as hoped, unlike the chair in my baby’s room which I still use multiple times a day (and my baby is now 16 months old.)

Additional Features: Recline, Lock in Place, or Swivel
Erik talked me into getting one of the gliders with additional features. Our glider can lean back, rock while leaning back, and also lock in place. Being able to lean back and rock at the same time is nice during some of those late night rocking sessions and the locking into place is nice for breastfeeding.
We didn’t get the swivel and thus I don’t feel I needed it but if you want to get all of the bells and whistles then I’m sure it is helpful as well.

Ottoman
The cost of this is ridiculous in comparison to the cost of the chair but again if you can afford it this is another nice item to splurge on. I use this every time I rock my baby, which I still do several times a day. In addition, it is nice to get an ottoman that has a pull-out to keep your feet stationary if you are planning to breastfeed.

My Chair
I love my white Dutailier glider with sage green cushions and matching ottoman. Here is a picture of my chair and ottoman.
