Dress Up Furniture
You can make old furniture look brand new by painting it. As shown in the video above, we painted furniture we bought at a garage sale different colors to match my son's comforter. See pictures below.
Another way to decorate furniture is to use wall clings like we did in my son's baby room. We used the theme from the Guess How Much I Love You book by McBratney. Refer to a pictures below.
When my daughter got the furniture we removed the wall clings and the furniture looked brand new again.
Curtains/ Wall Hangings
For our son's bedroom we bought an extra sport quilt from pottery barn kids and made the curtains out of the quilt. For wall hangings, in my son's room we used the extra material from the quilt to put in a frame we got from Target.
For our daughter's bedroom we made curtains out of pink gingham fabric we bought at Joanne Fabrics. The pink gingham matched perfectly with the pink gingham in her pottery barn quilt. The pink gingham fabric was thin so we added a white liner behind the fabric. Thanks MomMom for your hard work on making all of the curtains! For the wall hanging in my daughter's room, we could buy more pink gingham fabric and cut out my daughter's initial and mat it in a frame.
Walls
For my son's baby's room, we wanted to add color to the white walls by adding a small wall paper border which went around the room. We wanted to make it a small piece of wallpaper so it would be easy to remove when it was time to re-do the room. We ended up moving before it was time to re-do the room. In our new home, we still need to paint the walls. For my son's room we will probably paint the walls khaki and then possible do a red crown molding at the top. For my daughter's room, I'd like to paint a gingham plaid strip around the center of the room alternately blocks that match the pattern on her quilt shown below. We could also wallpaper the room in gingham fabric. (To Top)
