What's In a Name?
Names have always played an important role in my life, from my name, to my son’s name, to now this website’s name, MOMMBY.
My Baby’s Name
Deciding the name of your baby is probably one of the biggest and hardest decisions before the birth. Ultimately, a name doesn’t decide who the baby becomes…but I still think it is important to put a lot of thought into a name.
Both Erik and I wanted to give our baby a unique name. When my mom mentioned the idea of using the family last name as our baby’s name, it clicked. Surprisingly Erik loved it as well!! So my baby's name became my family’s last name + Erik’s father’s name and my grandfather’s name. (I’m purposely not disclosing my son’s name to allow some privacy.)
My family name wasn’t actually my last name, although since I was raised by my mom it truly was my family name even though it wasn’t my given last name. I was honored to be able to pass on my family name to my son.
My son’s middle name is Erik’s father’s first name and my grandfather’s first name. It was great to be able to combine both families together with the middle name. Erik respects and is very thankful of everything his father did and does for him and it was wonderful to be able to honor his dad this way. I was extremely close to my grandfather, he was like a dad to me, especially during the years we lived with my grandparents. I was thankful I was able to pay tribute to my grandpa this way. I know he is looking down on us and so proud of my baby.

MOMMBY
The name of this web site did not take a lot of thought; it just popped in my head one day. I was so excited when I finally did some searches on MOMMBY and it didn’t have a trademark associated and the domain had not already been claimed. It couldn’t have been more perfect:
MOMMY + BABY = MOMMBY
Also, when I angled the B for the logo, it looked like a heart (one of my favorite symbols, my engagement ring diamond is a heart.) I think it is appropriate to have the “B” for Baby symbolize a heart since a baby will always have your heart forever. Erik thinks it looks like a silhouette of a pregnant woman, you may have to look closely for this image.
