Holiday Pictures

This section discusses fun things to do to capture the holiday memories.

“Dress” Up Your Kids?
Besides Halloween, how many times can you get away with dressing your kids up in a costume for the holidays? Well, I figured at least for my son's first year of life I could take as many costume pictures as I wanted and so I definitely took advantage of this!  I took a special picture each holiday; 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter and I thought I would stop after the first year, but I’ve continued on into my son’s fourth year. Don't worry, I didn't let our second child miss out on any picture fun either. Please refer below for some of my favorite pictures.

Holiday Album
Whether you decide to go the extreme like I did and “dress” your kids up in festive holiday costumes or not, I think it is important to capture holiday memories. My mom and I both have a small picture album for each holiday.  I keep my album in with the appropriate holiday decorations so I don't forget about it each holiday season. It is important to write the date on the back of the pictures as even though you think you'll remember, sometimes when looking back it is hard to tell the year of each picture.

I have an album for New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. It may even be nice to have an album for Birthdays, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Wedding Anniversary, or any other special occasion.

Holiday Cards
I use the holiday pictures to send out holiday cards. The first year I sent holiday cards for Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. I also love to use random pictures to send letters to friends and family either for birthdays, anniversaries, thank you, or just a note to say hi. "A picture is worth a thousand words" is so true.

Picture Book or Calendar
I like to make a yearly picture book. The book's title for my son's first year was A Year of Miracle Milestones and for the second year, A Year to Remember: Terrific Toddler Memories. I'm behind on my photo books and I'm looking forward to making the one for my son's third year and my daughter's first year. In addition to the annual photo book, I make photo calendars for family members every year for Christmas.
