Sticker Book - May 22, 2010 (24 Months)
Today my son played with another new present, a sticker book. I thought it may be a little advanced for him as you were suppose to match up the stickers at the back of the book with pages at the front of the book, like putting a puzzle together. But he easily did it when I told him to match it up by the color backgrounds. He was able to find the similar shape and look for the correct color background. Another fun toy that was educational as well. It is a really big book so he may be enjoying this book until his 3rd birthday.

Finger Paint - May 20, 2010 (24 Months)
The present we opened today was my son's first finger painting kit. It was Crayola brand that the paint colors only show up on the special paper that comes with the kit. Both of us had a lot of fun making the painting and it turned out really nice. I was also impressed as my son correctly identified all of the colors, red, yellow, blue, green, and purple. He use to always say yellow and purple but didn't always say red, blue, or green.

Butterfly - May 19, 2010 (24 Months)
Today in our Tiny Tots class my son made a butterfly by spooning on different paint colors on one-side of the butterfly and then I folded the butterfly together to get the pain on the other side. It turned out really pretty. The Tiny Tots class has really helped him learn how to make crafts and also be patient while waiting to make his craft. Usually, there is only one of each item and so each child has to wait his turn at the table to use the different paint colors. I hadn't really done many "craft" projects before we started the class and he is able to do way more things than I expected.

Two Year Check-Up - May 18, 2010 (24 Months)
Today, at my son's two year check-up he graduated from the baby scale and measuring his height while laying on the table to the big boy scale and measuring his height against the wall. I wondered when they were going to start this and when they did it made me proud of how much he's changed the past two years. It truly is amazing how much your baby changes and grows each and every day.

Opening Presents - May 16, 2010 (24 Months)
We started opening birthday presents although our son enjoys each present so much that we only opened a few. We decided to open one or two presents each day for the next week, why rush it? Our son had fun ripping off the paper in tiny little pieces and then handing it to Mommy or Daddy to put it in the trash. He loved the PlayDoh with the tool to make "noodles." The new building blocks were also fun to play with.

Turning Two - May 15, 2010 (24 Months)
Today our son turned two years old. We celebrated with an Elmo themed birthday party. Daddy and Daideo worked the past day perfecting the Elmo cupcake cake made with organic and all natural ingredients. Making red icing using strawberries is harder than it looks especially, when you are trying to get an "Elmo Red" color.

I don't think our son was feeling his best the day of the party and he was pretty subdued for the party but in a way that may have worked out since he tolerated the 15 kids playing with his toys better. The hit of the party was the rice table, even though it did make quite a mess on the deck. Here is a picture of the day...more to come.

Name Game - May 14, 2010 (23 Months)
We have been having fun trying to get our son to say his name. He thinks it is hilarious to say his name is "Dude" from "Finding Nemo." So we would play word games, say cheese, he'd say "cheese" say apple, he'd say "apple" say cookie, he'd say "cookie" say pizza, he'd say "izza" and so on then we would say his name and he would say without any pause "Dude!" and laugh hysterically. So far we haven't been able to trick an almost two year old into saying his name.

At bedtime, Daddy had a talk with him about saying his proper name and our son started screaming, "But I like Dude!" and then when Daddy put him in his crib for bed for the next 30 minutes he happily kept saying, "But I like Dude!" and then finally fell asleep.

"I Go." - May 12, 2010 (23 Months)
Today, after breakfast my son said "I go" and started walking to the gate to go upstairs. I wasn't sure if he meant he wanted to go outside but since he was heading toward the upstairs I took the chance that he was telling me he had to go potty.

I wasn't planning to really try potty training until the weather got warmer and I could just have him wear a diaper/ training pants around the house but we've been getting him use to his potty chair since he was 14 months old. I did play two short videos for him yesterday to start getting him familiar with going to the potty. Well it may have worked as shortly after we got upstairs and he sat down he went #1 in the potty.

The funny part was, he likes to hold his orange bucket to make sure he doesn't splash out (see By Myself) and so today when he was sitting on the potty he got up to get a green cup which he handed to me and said "Mommy cup" since he wanted me to have something so if I went to the bathroom I didn't splash out of the toilet. I'll have to explain why girls don't need to worry about splashing when he is a little older. Let's hope this continues but I'm prepared to need several months to potty train.

Another memory of today was in our Tiny Tots class (preschool Mommy and Me class for age 2 - 3 1/2) at the beginning of class we go around the circle and each child says his name or most at least attempt. Our son hasn't said his name yet and whenever you ask him his name he thinks it is funny to say his name is "Dude!" but today he said a two syllable word. The word didn't necessarily sound much like his name but at least he didn't tell his class his name was "Dude!"

Light Blinking - May 11, 2010 (23 Months)
Tonight when Erik was getting our son ready for bed he was plugging the clock back in the wall and our son said "Light Blinking" another instance where our son knew a word that we were surprised he related to the clock flashing. He knew blink from when we would say blink your eyes. It is fun to see how kids at this age start combining words together.

By Myself - May 10, 2010 (23 Months)
We are definitely (really we have been for quite some time now) at the age of I can do it by myself. This morning my son wouldn't even let me help him put on his shoes. At first he tried putting them on while sitting but that was too hard, party because his shoes are a little small. He managed to get them on by standing and stepping into them. They are velcro so he could even fix the strap by himself. I need to remind myself, to yes let him try. I wasn't sure he would be able to get his shoes on himself but he did it no problem.

He also likes to say "I help" when he wants to help me or "no help" when he doesn't want me to help him. He is also good at reminding Mommy to have him go to the bathroom on the potty. He's actually been sporadically going bathroom in his potty chair since he was 14 months old. I haven't started potty training yet but occasionally before bath time we'll have him sit on his potty and sometimes he goes and sometimes not. If he doesn't go usually shortly after getting in the bath he stands up and will go into his orange bucket. So now he associates his orange bucket with going potty. Tonight, like recently when he sat on his potty he asked for his orange bucket which he put on top and it actually worked quite well to keep everything in the potty. (Note: When he sits on his little potty he requests that I sit on the big potty. I guess he thinks Mommy must need to go to the potty as well.) I think his favorite part after going potty is wiping with toilet paper and then getting to flush the toilet.

In the bathtub he had fun lying on his belly himself and kicking and blowing bubbles not simultaneously yet but we are still proud of him. Ever since his swim class in February he enjoys blowing bubbles in the bathtub.

First Kicks - May 10, 2010 (Pre-Birth 18 Weeks)
I felt the first "flutters" of our son's sibling this past week. I'm around 18 weeks. Since it is my second, I knew what it was...I remember with our son it took my longer to realize what I was feeling were the baby's first kicks. I think it took me until closer until 20 weeks last time. I love feeling the baby's "kicks" especially the first since they feel more like a "flutter" and not even a kick.

Babies - May 9, 2010 (23 Months)
Today, we celebrated Mother's Day! We decided to go to dinner the three of us and were considering taking our son to his first movie, Babies. We weren't sure he would sit through the entire movie but I thought the babies may hold his attention. On our way into the movie he saw the train in the mall and wanted to ride on it. I told him if he was good for the movie, he could ride the train. He was perfect for the movie. He pointed out the first baby, cat, and dog he saw but fortunately he didn't keep pointing them out throughout the entire movie. Soon as the movie ended before we even left the theatre he said, "Cho Cho" I guess he didn't forget I promised he could ride the train. So of course, that is what we did. He enjoyed his train ride. We then went out to dinner. It was a great Mother's Day celebration. (I really enjoyed watching the Babies movie and I got excited for our new baby on the way.)
