It is my son’s 3rd year attending preschool. He started preschool when he was 2 1/2 and has loved it every since. So I was completely surprised when he woke up on the first day of his 4 year old preschool and said “I’m not feeling well…I can’t go to preschool today. Maybe I’ll go later.” I said, “what do you mean…you love preschool. You have been looking forward to going back to school.”

Then after realizing he still was not changing his decision I tried another tactic. First, I presented his new Angry Bird t-shirt as I knew he would be excited to wear it. Then I said, “well even though you are not going to school we still need to brush your teeth.” So I started his daily routine. Then I said, “well since you are not going to school we better get ready so we can go tell your teacher you are not going to school today.” He agreed we better make a trip to his preschool to tell his teacher he was not going to be able to go to school today.

Then I said, “well even though you are not going to school, I still want to get your 1st Day of School picture.” He excitedly held up his new Star Wars backpack.

Then after a little coaxing, he even posed for the camera as shown in the first picture. Then when we were getting ready to leave to go tell his teacher he was not going to be able to go to preschool today, he said with a smile, “well, I guess I can go to preschool.”

Here is my happy 4 year old standing in front of his cubby finally ready for his 1st day of preschool.
